My Take on New Year's Resolutions

Updated: Jan 10, 2018

It’s the first week of January and all around me (IRL and on social media) I find myself surrounded by people going on about their goals and resolutions in the hope of fulfilling the ever tedious ‘new year, new me’ mantra.

Now, let me make myself clear. I have absolutely no problem with people trying to better themselves, to the contrary, my whole career and large portion of what I consider my life’s purpose is to guide people to and through their personal journeys to holistic health and happiness.

What does bother me is how much power many of us (especially in the Western world) give to otherwise arbitrary times of the year. Why does it need it need to be Spring for us to start working on our ‘summer bodies’? And why does it have to be New Year’s for us to commit to things that really matter to us like our family, health, careers, etc.? I guess I just like to think of it differently.

In my eyes, I don’t need a New Year in order to be ‘New Lee’. I think that right now is just a good a time as any to start actively rewiring my thoughts, emotions, and behaviors to create new habits that’ll lead me to become better (and calmer :p) versions of me.

Still, I get it… And I guess if I’m being honest with, both, myself and with you, I’ll admit that I’ve fallen victim to this cycle, too. The cycle, which always starts with many goals, full energy and determination, and lots of promise… but, somehow, always ends without any result at all or, if we’re lucky, a positive outcome that is usually short-lived.

As a perfectionist who prides herself on the ability to ‘get things done’, I started getting frustrated with myself every year when realizing that, not only had I not even come close to achieving my New Year’s Resolutions, I’d actually forgotten all about them months ago. And so, I decided to look into what about this predisposed habit of ours just wasn’t working for me and try find another method that does. I came up with the following:

So, I’d like to invite you to join me in my appreciation of the present moment and my own, personal, empowerment. All the while, recognizing the importance of setting goals regularly (and following the table above) in order to get where you want to go.

And, finally, should you need any help with setting SMART goals that are relevant to you and with accountability, I would love to be the one to be your ‘guide on the side’ to guarantee success in 2018. You can follow me in Instagram for my lifestyle tips there or check out my services to see if you’d like to start a program.

Wishing you all many smiles & laughter, good & nourishing meals, surrounded by warm

& loving friends and family; a fulfilling career that brings about abundance and financial security, a strong sense of connection to something greater than yourself, so so much endless & unconditional love, and finally, a pain free year all in good health.
